It’s a good time to read the world.

In less than three short (or long) weeks, it will be Earth Day (April 22). People, young and old, around the world are finding ways to adapt to our current situation…whether while working, learning, entertaining or being entertained. Books, puzzles, toys and games are being ordered online in droves.

Students are home and learning remotely, while parents are trying their best to pick up the teaching reigns, using a multitude of resources made available by teachers, school boards, and educational organizations. It’s not easy, for anyone.

With this in mind, I’ve put together a very short list of noteworthy novels from around our globe. Worldwide we are sharing an experience that is unprecedented in the modern era while re-discovering our common humanity. Reading fiction has always been an excellent way to gain empathy and understanding towards others, at the same time as doing something good for our minds (literally) and imagination.

To the teachers and librarians who are making learning happen for your students and patrons remotely, feel free to use this poster to inspire reading the world!

Tell me what novels you would add to our “One Home” reading list. Happy reading and Happy Earth Day.

  1. With what is going on in the world and the fact that we are all in this together, I love how you’ve gone about doing this to bring great literature from around the world to all of us. I mean we all have tons of time o read and escape even for a few hours the craziness in the world today. Thank you!!!
