The phenomenon of Wordle is yet another perfect example of the small things bringing great joy.
Its charming and humble beginnings, its minimum time commitment, its acute and efficient boot up for our brains, accessing logic and linguistic skills simultaneously,
with its take no prisoners attitude – no hints, no coins, no ads (for now)- all make it, in my humble opinion, THE game of 2022.
All reasoning above notwithstanding, the most common random question of the year has been “Do you play Wordle?” Now just “Do you wordle?” It was bound to become a verb.
I do Wordle around my second morning coffee (after I’ve played my Words with Friends so as to have primed my syntax muscle.) This is followed by the temptation to reach out to friends who play just to compare notes. I am that annoying Wordler who will text my best peep with just a number. 4. 3. Once 2. My first time getting a 6, I simply texted “phew”, the message the game aptly gives.
What a small but impactful way to bring joy to so many.
When we choose “how to use our precious time” (shout-out to Mary), endeavouring to fill our day with a variety of little joyful activities has been emboldened by a little 5 x 6 grid.
Kudos Wordle-Maker! I’d like to nominate you 2022 Person of the Year.
